Special Coffee Reserve Not Hampered by Price

Upmarket hamper and grocery specialist, Fortnum & Mason, has started stocking coffee that it sells for £60 per 250g tin.

Labelled “the best coffee in the world” by the Queen’s grocer, the Panama Esmeralda Special is produced using rare Geisha Arabica beans, which are highly sought after by bidders in auctions and can fetch record-breaking prices. With a mandarin orange aroma, the premium coffee also has tones of redcurrants and jasmine.

Rainforest Alliance certified, the coffee estate is managed by third generation farmers and has a commitment to environmental and social sustainability, thus boasting further positive attributes that are matched by its superior taste.

Darren Williams, responsible for the buying of coffee for the retail hamper specialist, said: ‘We are extremely passionate about quality coffee and the new Panama Esmeralda Special is a fine example of the best of the best.”

In addition to being available in ‘gold’ tins that exude quality, the premium coffee can also be purchased in 250g bags of roasted beans for £50, although the beans will then need to be ground.

In other speciality hot beverage news, a tea picked by Sri Lankan women wearing white cotton gloves and using scissors made of gold, as the story dictates, has just gone on sale at Kitchen, a restaurant in a private member’s club in Manchester.

Made using ‘Sacred White’, a tea farmed by French company Mariage Freres, a pot of the leaf-based elixir will reportedly set you back £25. Low in theanine (caffeine), the white tea apparently contains more antioxidants than any green tea.
