‘Responsible nutrition’ specialist, Lamberts Health Care, has announced the launch of its pure green coffee extract that it suggests may help support weight loss.

While Lamberts does not normally provide supplements for individuals wishing to lose weight in its normal product range, the mounting data supporting the validity of the role green coffee extract can play in slimming has encouraged the company to add such an offering to its portfolio.

The type of coffee beans used in Lamberts Pure Green Coffee Extract is decaffeinated and unroasted Robusta, the latter to ensure that none of the sensitive components is comprised or the chemical profile changed. The extract also boasts high levels of chlorogenic acids, naturally-occurring active compounds that have been lauded for their antioxidant ability.

Positioned as a two-a-day supplement, the products provides a full 400mg of green coffee extract. This is the level that has been shown in scientific studies to be sufficient in supporting weight loss when combined with a calorie-controlled intake of food.

In human studies to date, coffee consumption is reported be to inversely associated with weight gain as well as shown to trigger changes in several glycaemic indicators amongst older adults. Other studies have suggested the consumption of coffee can prevent a certain level of weight gain over time, which is linked to coffee caffeine’s thermogenic (fat burning) effects, as well as to coffee extract and other active compounds.
It has also been proposed that green coffee extract can modify hormone secretion and glucose tolerance by facilitating the absorption of glucose from the distal, as opposed to the later part, of the gastrointestinal tract.
