Mind-Boggling Brew in Retro Cup

Tetris

Dating back to the early 1980s, the time-honoured puzzle video game of Tetris has been enjoyed by millions across the globe for almost 30 years.

Developed by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union, it was released in 1984 and has now escaped the confines of four-walled screens to adorn a retro-looking and brightly-coloured coffee cup, to add a glint of joy to people’s long-working hours.

Exactly as they are in the original world of Tetris, the seven one-sided tetrominoes featured on the colourful mug will have people in a fix, while they try to locate an appropriate space to fit the falling lettered blocks, not to mention suitably caffeinated, while they strain their grey matter to figure out the game.

Thanks to its bright colours contrasted against a black background, the Tetris mug has been highlighted as an ideal Christmas gift for either friends or office mates that are keen enthusiasts of the game, since it is highly likely to spark conversation among fellow fans and colleagues when used around the office.

Retailing for US$12.99, the mug, although it cannot guarantee to improve people’s Tetris ability, is a unique interpretation of the game voted as the best of all time by the American video game magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Meanwhile in the UK, ‘big ticket’ items such as fridges and coffee machines are said to be bolstering Christmas retail sales, a sentiment communicated by department store John Lewis. The chain said it had just enjoyed a record week of £121 million in sales, as a result of consumers making investments in such items.
