New Kent Coffee Shop Proves a Welcome Break

After long-standing careers with the Home Office but unfortunate redundancies as a result of the latest public sector cut-backs in October, a couple have found a new lease of life through their newly established coffee shop in Faversham’s Preston Street.

A husband and wife team, Nick Green and Julie Greenwell-Green put immigration forms aside and sniffed out new success through coffee beans, giving people in the Kent town a chance to get cosy with a book while enjoying a Fairtrade cup of coffee.

Opened by Faversham’s mayor, Anita Walker, last weekend, the new coffee shop Jittermugs promises that it will enhance the increasing coffee culture in the town. Having noticed that there were a considerable number of unoccupied shops on Preston Street, the couple felt that a new coffee shop would be the ideal proposition for the area, allowing local people to experience something a bit different and bringing a fantastic opportunity to the Green family.

Faversham is reported to have a keen taste for local, quality produce, with residents keen consumers of Fairtrade teas, coffees and pastries. Despite the town being part of the Fairtrade initiative, the Greens felt that there were not many coffee shops offering Fairtrade coffee. The pair therefore pride themselves on being one of the only coffee venues in town to offer just that.

In terms of décor, the outfit has a retro 1950s feel with leather art deco sofas and various examples of the couple’s photographic artwork on the walls. There will also be a choice of classic Penguin books for visitors to enjoy over their coffee.
