Good Food Awards Recognise Carrboro Coffee as a Finalist in Latest Initiative

US-based Carrboro Coffee Roasters has been chosen as a finalist in the San Francisco-hosted Good Food Awards, an initiative that is designed to recognise authenticity, quality and responsibility in food.
The award programme was created through a collaborative effort of food producers, food journalists, farmers and independent grocers and seeks to recognise that truly quality food has numerous benefits behind it, including environmental and social responsibility, while also delivering on aspects such as flavour.
The awards take a holistic view of the food production process, honouring those who render an end product not only delicious in taste, but also respectful to the environment, the communities that are involved in the growing phase, as well as being connected to cultural traditions and preferences.
Chosen as a finalist in the Good Food Awards, Carrboro Coffee Roasters was picked out for its Cup of Excellence from Honduras. This uses El Aguacate coffee grown by farmer Tomas Sosa Calderon and stood out among 54 other coffees because of its sweet, caramel taste combined with a lush acidity, in addition to being clearly connected with the farming practices that Calderon uses.
Final winners will be recognised in a ceremony to be held in San Francisco on 14 January. This will be hosted by Alice Waters and, to showcase winners to a wider audience incorporating the general public, will be followed by a Good Food Marketplace the following day. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample foods in the surroundings of the Saturday Farmers’ Market in the iconic Ferry Building in San Francisco.
