Students Push Coffee in Washington

Even though the majority of US states do not have an officially designated drink, coffee could become the official state beverage of Washington, if a bill into local government by a pair of students from Snohomish high school is approved.
Washington state is apparently so intimately linked with consumers’ favourite caffeinated drink that such an official association would not appear much of a stretch. However, the decision is in the hands of the Washington Legislature.
In putting their case together, students Sierra Warren and Lora Suryan and their fellow law classmates – supported by Rep. Barbara Bailey from Oak Harbor – did their research. The students found out that while several other states had claimed milk as their official beverage, none had claimed coffee. According to local press, however, the designation could witness opposition from other interests seeking to promote other Washington products such as wine, apple juice or microbrews (or craft beers).
For those visting Washington, a tourist guide lists the top ten places to get a cup of coffee in the area. First on the list is Chinatown Coffee Company, the state’s most recent coffee house, focussed on its quality coffee and pastries. The venue also hosts sampling sessions as well as discussions with experts in the field of coffee.
Other recommended outlets include Ebenezers Coffeehouse, which is owned by the National Community Church and donates all its proceeds to outreach projects in the community, as well as M.E. Swing Co. This is local coffee house dates back to 1916 and focusses on achieving the freshest coffee through hand-craft roasting small batches at a time.
