Charity bike ride across Britain for Diabetes UK

On the day of the Royal Wedding, the baristas from Bold Street Coffee had very special public duties of their own. The Liverpool coffee shop wanted to raise awareness and money for diabetes as the head of the coffee shop, Sam Tawil, suffers from the type 1 variant.
What is the route for these energetic and public spirited coffee shop enthusiasts? Named the ‘Ride Across Wales,’ the baristas of Bold Street Coffee set off from the coffee shop in Liverpool and have designed a gruelling route across the hills of Wales to reach Cardiff as the final destination.
The baristas are reported as claiming that the journey they have planned is the most arduous they could devise. The bike ride is 267 miles, which the team hope to cover in only two and a half days. They are not making life easy for themselves by choosing a flat terrain – the route will cover elevations of over 14,500 feet.
Sam Tawil finds his type 1 diabetes difficult to live with, particularly when he has to exert himself physically, so this will be a challenge for him. The charity they have chosen to support – Diabetes UK – is the biggest organisation in the country to help people with the disease. With more than 150,000 members, the charity seeks to fund research into the disease and lobbies the government for improved care and quality of life for sufferers. Diabetes UK works with those with the illness and also carers.
