In Lima, the capital of Peru, there have been self-congratulatory announcements about the role played by the country in the latest coffee event in Houston Texas. This year the Specialty Coffee Association of America held its 23rd Annual Specialty Coffee Event and, by all reports, Peru is very happy with the way its nation was represented at the festival.

In particular, this South American country – famous for its ancient Inca cities and the renowned Inca trail – was delighted to be acknowledged as a country that produced a high-quality coffee. This was no mean feat as the American coffee event is said to be the largest specialty coffee event on the planet. There were over 700 exhibition booths at the event this year. The United States is well-known for its love of the coffee bean and the coffee culture.

A representative of the National Coffee Board was quoted as recalling the success of the Peruvian representation at the event. Apparently, many players in the coffee industry frequented the Peruvian stand and tried their coffee wares, including buyers and baristas. It was felt that the profile of Peruvian coffee was improving and becoming more successful.

It seems that South America did well at the event as it has been reported that Brazil had the most popular stand and Peru claims to have been hot on its heels in the popularity stakes.

It is certainly a cause for celebration when so many nations are united in their love of coffee and specialty products to continue to raise the bar for consumers.
