Vietnam has growth in coffee sector

Don’t you love to hear good news about successes in this economic climate, rather than all the doom and gloom about the recession, credit crunch and so on?

If so, read on. Vietnam has had a good year so far, in terms of the coffee industry – the first six months have been something of a success as reported in the local press recently. Export has been flourishing – apparently some 913,000 tonnes of the caffeine-elixir were exported, reaping a neat $2 billion turnover for the country.

Did you know that Belgium is one of the biggest fans of Vietnamese coffee (second in fact, after America) and it imported six times more of the stuff during the early part of 2011, compared to the figures from 2010. How much did they buy? A cool $178.5 million of the product.

Another country with an interest in Vietnamese coffee which has hit the news is China. Apparently the consumption of the product has almost doubled in the early part of the year. It has been noted that the coffee culture is taking off in this huge country – one explanation has been that overseas Chinese students with a taste for coffee have been returning home, adding to the penchant for coffee requested by international visitors to the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam has added figures to explain that this is a significant increase in value and volume for the country. It seems that exports for the country are going well.
