Coffee berries – the new beauty treatment

Foodstuffs have long been used in beauty preparations. Think of Cleopatra’s milk baths, images of cucumber slices on eyelids to reduce puffy eyes, or homemade avocado face masks. Did you know that coffee berry preparations are also in demand?
Coffee berries come from coffee plants (Arabica) and look a little like cherries. Usually this part of the coffee plant is discarded (farmers use the coffee beans, or seed, to make our cup of joe) but recently the berries have been put to use. According to beauty reports in the press, coffee berries are high in antioxidants. Why is this important? According to experts, it is because this property of the berry can be used to combat signs of aging (wrinkles).
Why is this the case? Why would coffee berries contain antioxidants? It has been explained that coffee plants are often grown near the equator and at high altitude. In this location, the oxidising sunshine is powerful and the plant counteracts this by synthesising antioxidants.
Beauty experts have said that they have observed a new trend in beauty treatments: it seems that customers are becoming increasingly interested in longer term skin care practices which include using products with properties such as coffee berries and vitamin E to seek to arrest aging. Arguably, it has been suggested that some are rejecting quick-fix solutions such as Botox and want a longer term approach to their skin health.
There are many products which include coffee berry extract, including skin products, powders, supplements or consumables. Hunt around and take your pick!
