Coffee morning for Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs

Guide dogs are an astonishing help to those who have poor or lost sight. The Guide Dog organisation helps many people each year to learn to adjust to a set of canine ‘eyes’ to aid them in life. In Scotland, a coffee morning took place recently to help to raise funds for the good cause.

The Scottish Guide Dogs team, including members of staff and also those who volunteer their time to the organisation, have a target of £7,500 to raise. This all relates to the Coniston Challenge, which the team hope to participate in during 2011.

This is quite a challenge, as the event involves climbing mountains, traversing falls, biking and also paddling on lakes. As well as raising money, the Coniston Challenge will bring together and bond those who are taking part. In the Guide Dog team, participants include an owner of a guide dog and also those who help to train and develop guide dogs. Just to make things a little more difficult, the Coniston Challenge has to be completed within a specific time period.

It is helpful, as such, that things have started off a little more gently by supping on a good cup of coffee at the coffee morning. The funds raised amounted to around £142.

Guide Dogs is an excellent organisation that deserves this attention. It helps people with sight loss (most guide dog owners still have some vision) and it costs as little as 50p to own and use the services of a guide dog, including equipment, training, vets bills and pet food.
