Amazing coffee morning achievement for Beatson Hospital

It seems that there is a close relationship at the moment between coffee mornings and raising money for charities and in particular, cancer charities. You may have heard that the Macmillan cancer charity is going great guns to raise money for its cause by various coffee events, as part of its World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign, which is due to culminate on 30 September. Events are being held all over the country, involving small intimate groups, large gatherings, mayors, emergency services and even religious figures.
However, in Glasgow, a very special widow has also done spectacular work in raising money for cancer patients.
What has this lady done?
The lady in question is Mrs Betty Kerr from Carlunke. She has demonstrated great generosity of spirit since losing her husband to cancer in 2005, by raising money tirelessly for the Beatson Hospital, which specialises in care for those suffering from cancer.
Together with her daughter, Elizabeth Bain and supportive family and friends, Mrs Kerr has raised a staggering sum over the past few years, amounting to almost £11,000. This has meant that the hospital can acquire machines and other equipment to help those with cancer.
And recently, Mrs Kerr organised a stupendous coffee morning, which enabled her to hand over another cheque for £3,250 to the hospital. Local reports suggest that Mrs Kerr also uses her skills as a knitter to raise funds, together with her not inconsiderable hospitable capabilities. Doubtless the funds will also be put to good use.
