PDSA, the animal charity, benefits from coffee

We Brits are renowned for our love of animals. And the population of Doncaster are no exception! In particular, the Peacehaven Coffee Club have just gone out of their way to raise funds to help disadvantaged animals in their area.

What did they do? Coffee and charity go hand in hand it seems (think of the time-honoured coffee mornings in church halls). The Peacehaven Coffee Club meet regularly in the Peacehaven church building and they hatched a plan to help animals. By selling coffee and raffle tickets, the group raised funds of £400 for the PDSA over a four week period.

The PDSA is Britain’s leading veterinary charity and looks after over 350,000 pets that are owned by people in need. The charity states that in 2011, it expects to provide over 2.2 million free treatments to sick or injured animals and to undertake over 360,000 preventative treatments.
Funds for this charity rely solely on public support and contributions and so the work of the Peacehaven Coffee Club will be gratefully received. The services provided by the PSDA come to over £53 million and so every little donation helps.

The charity is doing well. Only a few months ago, HRH Princess Alexandra, who is a PSDA Patron, opened the new PetAid hospital in Sunderland, which is a state-of-the-art establishment. Facilities include dedicated dental and diagnostic theatres, consultation rooms, an x-ray room, critical care and various recovery wards. The donations raised by the public are well-spent.
