Healthy reports of Ugandan Coffee Exports

Uganda

It is heartening, isn’t it, in these gloomy economic times, to hear about success stories and positive good news from the world of business? It makes a welcome change from the misery news of job losses, unemployment, struggling economic recovery and debt.

If this upbeat news is your bag, read on.

As reported in Bloomberg recently, Uganda is not doing too badly, thank you very much, when it comes to its coffee exports. The country is Africa’s second largest producer and therefore important to the economy.

What is the good news? Rumour has it that this year’s crop is likely to be a good one. The predictions are that over three million 60kg bags of coffee may be shipped during the twelve month period up to the end of September. This is welcome news because the problems created by a drought in the early part of 2011 meant that figures may have been lowered – forecasts were revised at the time to expect around 2.6 million bags.

The upwards trend has, by certain accounts, a possibility of continuing too. During the next 12 month period, starting at the beginning of October 2012, it may even go as high as 3.2 million bags.

As reported by the International Coffee Organisation, Uganda is hot on the heels of Ethiopia as the largest players in the coffee export market on the continent. Given the importance of this market to the population of Uganda, it looks as if it’s a thumbs up for near future.
