Sadly, many of us have been affected either directly or indirectly by cancer. For those who have suffered in this way and who have been helped by the Macmillan Cancer Support charity, the coffee morning fund-raising event on 30 September is a time to give a little something back.

The news is awash with examples of numerous plans and strategies to make this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning one to remember. It is a very simple and non-threatening proposal – enjoy yourself with your friends and colleagues, whether a big gathering or small, wherever and whenever you like and donate the proceeds or donations from the event to the charity.

One such example can be found in Bosham. For the fourth year running, Julia Baker and Jan Davenport are going to be putting on an event to raise funds. Both ladies were diagnosed and treated for breast cancer and they want to give a little back.

The ladies have the support of a network of friends who are experts at putting on a good show. In addition to the obligatory supply of coffee, the ladies will be providing stalls, entertainment and, in all probability, a few cake-treats too. In previous years, the ladies have raised around £3,000 per coffee morning.

According to reports, West Sussex is a county which is expected to provide much support with similar other events. The fundraising manager for the area has been quoted as suggesting they hope to raise just under £250,000,
