Mencap supported by coffee morning

It seems that there has been a recent renaissance of the good old coffee morning to raise funds for charities. The Macmillan Cancer Support campaign for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September this year proves that huge sums of money can be raised for excellent causes by employing tried and tested ways of doing so. All over the country, coffee mornings big and small were held to obtain funds for the charity.

And at the Barry funeral home, it has been reported that they have also followed suit by holding a coffee morning to support the disability charity Mencap. A G Adams & Son is opening its doors to locals so that they can enjoy a cuppa, a decent slice of cake and have a natter, while simultaneously raising funds for this good cause.

Mencap is a well-known charity in the UK which works with those who suffer from learning disabilities and the organisation aims to support these individuals, their families and carers. During the period 2011-2016, Mencap has prepared a strategy outlining all that they hope to achieve. They want to challenge prejudice and allow those with learning disabilities to live the life they choose.

It is also a charity which has an impressive selection of celebrity supporters and ambassadors. Did you realise, for example, the Edge (from the band U2), Donna Air, Christopher Ecclestone, Jo Whiley and Will Young are all supporters of this organisation too? However help for the charity does not have to come in such showbiz packaging – the humble coffee morning also plays its part in helping those in need.
