Kidderminster Boys work to support SARA

Kidderminster Boys' Brigade

In time-honoured tradition, there are plans to raise monies at a coffee morning for good causes afoot.

What is the cause? According to reports, the Kidderminster Boys’ Brigade wants to make some money so that it can support half a dozen senior boys (plus another couple from Lye) to make an epic walk this summer.

So where will these lads be walking? And how far? The boys will hike for 60 miles along the Penine Way in the summer.

The walk itself is also designed to raise funds, this time for the Severn Area Rescue Association (and also help the lads get their Queens badge in the Boys’ Brigade too).

SARA is a search and rescue organisation which covers the area around the Severn Estuary.

The search and rescue services operate all year round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and liaise with the other rescue organisations too, such as the RAF.

SARA also has inshore lifeboats which attend incidents around the Estuary and are also tasked by the police, ambulance and fire and rescue emergency services to cover other rivers in the area, such as the Severn, Avon and Wye.

In addition to working on the rivers and estuary, SARA has swiftwater capabilities with technicians who are trained to work on rescue operations for those in fast moving water.

The work of SARA is not limited to water missions – there is also a land search section who can look for missing persons on land (including mountainous areas).
