The surprising value of coffee grounds

So much emphasis is now placed on the need for recycling and trying our best to be environmentally friendly. In addition to saving the planet, recycling is also a great way in which to save money which, particularly following the recent global economic recession, is something from which almost all of us could benefit!
Now would appear a great time then to make the most out of your favourite beverage, coffee. Aside from the delights (and health benefits) derived from drinking it, there are many other uses for coffee grounds, the following being just a few of them:-
1. Coffee grounds can be used as an exfoliant. Just rub them onto the skin and then rinse.
2. Grounds can be used as a fertiliser. They are full of nutrients for garden plants to thrive on.
3. If you have a slug problem in the garden, used grounds can be used as a repellent as they make slugs feel dehydrated.
4. The above also applies to ants.
5. Grounds can be a great deodoriser, helping to get rid of the majority of unwanted smells.
6. If you have scratches on wooden furniture, coffee grounds can help to remove them. Grounds are an excellent abrasive substance with which to clean any stain resistant surfaces.
8. If you’re a dog owner, rub coffee grounds through the coat of your pet after bathing to help keep them free from fleas.
9. For those who enjoy fishing, keep bait worms alive for longer by placing them in a mixture of coffee grounds and soil.
10. Used coffee grounds are an excellent compost in which to grow mushrooms.
