Coffee bean farmers in Brazil are urging the Government to increase its purchase of the product in order to reinforce prices as this year’s output looks set to reach record heights.

Brazil is currently the world’s largest coffee bean producer. The nation’s coffee growers are hoping to persuade the Government to buy 5million sacks of coffee this market year, up 2 million sacks on last year’s acquisitions.

Such a move would help to stabilise prices in the country by taking the coffee beans off the global market. Rosemeire Santos, a director of the National Agriculture Confederation, a lobbying group in the country, predicts that Government procurement would help boost domestic coffee prices by up to a quarter. In a recent interview Santos said that “Brazil needs to be prepared for a large crop and keep supplies in check to avert price drops”.

Current estimates predict that output in Brazil will reach between 45 and 50 million 60 kg sacks this year, which is a substantial increase from the 39.5 million harvested last year.

The Agriculture Ministry has already begun talks with domestic farmers and Santos expects that the purchases will be sanctioned by the National Monetary Council next month.

The terms of the deal would see farmers offered fixed prices at which to sell their produce directly to the Government if higher prices cannot be found on the open market. Auctions will be held between August and November this year according to the group’s proposal to the Government.

New for 2009, Brasilia has released the RR55OD on demand coffee grinder.

An on demand coffee grinder allows you to grind the coffee beans just when you need them, instead of keeping the ground coffee in a hopper.

Once the coffee bean has been ground, its starts losing its oils and goes stale very quickly, usually with noticeable deterioration after 20 minutes.

The on demand grinder allows you to have fresh ground coffee every time, making sure your espresso, lattes, cappuccinos and other espresso based drinks are at their best.

The machine is incredible easy to use, there are 2 buttons on the right hand side, one for a single shot and the other for a double.

Simply press the shot size you need and a perfectly measured, fresh, dose is produced ready to be used.

For further details either follow this link on demand coffee grinder or call our friendly sales team on 0845 4500 500 quoting the Brasilia RR55OD

Although the UK is in general recession, the UK Coffee industry is optimistic about maintaining current growth levels through out 2009 and into 2010.

Though current trends for added value are showing in the coffee industry, growth levels have remained constant through out the recession period.

Part of this is attributed to a change in our national drinking habits. For many, coffee is now a way of life instead of just a luxury.
Also with a lot of people concerned with their financial outgoings, a trip out for a decent coffee is seen as an affordable treat instead of the more expensive luxuries we would have seen 12 months ago.

Jason Mooring, General Manager here at Caffe Society explained “Coffee sales have not been affected by the downturn of the last 12 months” adding “March was actually a record month for coffee sales, our own brand Super Crema Coffee Beans have been literally flying out of the door”

With many companies and individuals looking to change direction/diversify, coffee seems to be the way forward in these uncertain times.
