Environmental Responsibility And Sustainabilty
At Caffe Society we understand that in this day and age our responsibilities don’t just end with our customers and suppliers.
Everyone has a part to play in reducing their impact on the environment and leaving a better world for all.
As a busy company involved with fast moving products, Caffe Society is aware of its potential environmental impact, so we have set out that our main aims are:
• to comply with all relevant environment legislation and industry codes of practice.
• to reduce environmental impact and prevent pollution in the formulation of our products and the operation of our importing and distributing processes.
• to set objectives and targets to drive continual improvement plans and regularly review environmental performance to ensure that we are succeeding.
As a key part of our environmental policy we practice the principles of the 3 'R's.
Reduce, Re-use and Recycle
Some methods we use to achieve this goal are we:
• buy recycled goods wherever possible. We also try to use 100% re-cycled goods when possible.
• seek to purchase fair traded and environmentally sound goods. We also endeavour to purchase goods from local suppliers to reduce food miles.
• promote the use of cycling and walking as the means of travel to work as well as local meetings and also encourage the use of public transport
• seek to minimize the use of energy in our activities. For example, lights and computers will be switched on only when needed and not out of routine.
• recycle all office paper and all cardboard packaging materials by segregating it and sending to a local recycler.
• provide all members of staff with their own porcelain cup to prevent the use of plastic/paper cups being wasted.
Groundwork

To display our commitment to this policy Caffe Society has achieved the Groundwork National Certificate at Gold Merit level.
Groundwork delivers projects and programmes that bring about social, economic and environmental benefits. They also manage contracts and provide services that can contribute towards promoting environmental sustainability and combating climate change.
At Caffe Society we are always happy to provide our suppliers, customers and the public with information regarding the Caffe Society Recycling scheme, our economically sourced packaging and our green policy.

WEEE Compliance
Introduction to WEEE
Waste electrical goods range from hairdryers to washing machines and make up the fastest growing waste stream in the UK!
Every year an estimated 1 million tonnes of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) are discarded by householders and commercial groups in the UK. This is a lot of electrical waste! So to reduce the amount of electrical items going to landfill the government has brought out the WEEE Regulations.
Why bother?
The disposal of electronic and electrical appliances in landfill sites or through incineration creates a number of environmental problems:
When waste materials are not recycled, raw materials have to be processed to make new products. This represents a significant loss of resources as the energy, transport and environmental damage caused by these processes is large.
Another major problem is the toxic nature of many of the substances, including arsenic, bromine, cadmium, halogenated flame retardant, hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), lead, mercury and PCBs.

Electrical goods are the fastest growing waste stream in UK, growing by 5% each year!

The crossed out wheelie bin symbol
All electrical and electronic equipment made after June 2006 should display this symbol on the packaging or product. Anything marked with this symbol should not be discarded in the normal waste stream and should be separated and disposed of correctly.
Caffé Society WEEE Take back Scheme
Domestic customers can return their WEEE to us free of charge when replacing for a new product. The machine has to be similar in nature and the customer can either send it to us or deliver it in person and we will dispose of it. This must be done within 28 days of purchase.
Commercial Customers — Free take back only applies to the brands that we import directly from manufacturers. Brasilia, Cabspa, Promek and Frucosol
Any of the above brands that have been supplied by Caffe Society will be taken back by ourselves and disposed of. We reserve the right to charge any delivery costs that we may incur. The customer can either send the machine back to us or delivery it to us, as we are not responsible for delivery costs. For part exchange of a new machine we will cover the cost of WEEE disposal.
“Caffé Society are committed to environmental excellence. We encourage recycling and we will ensure all of our WEEE is recycled and dealt with responsibly in the best environmental manner”
