Study shows coffee drinks are ‘fun’

For years we’ve been at a loss as to why we continuously describe ourselves as ‘fun’ people to be around both at work and when socialising in our free time. I’m sure that you too have wondered why that adjective has been transposed onto yourself from time to time.

Well the answer, as it turns out, is probably within arm’s reach of you right now. Just extend those fingertips, grab your mug, take a sip and read this.

During our existence as a company we have heard many parallels be drawn about the characteristics and quirks of those who drink tea and those who drink coffee. Some say coffee lovers and purists, others say that those who prefer tea maintain higher standards.

However a new study has settled the debate, apparently!

The confectionery giants Nestle conducted a survey recently in which 2,000 people were quizzed on their choice of drink.

Despite finding out that more people opted for loose leaves over beans, the results were crystal clear: Those who courted coffee were regularly described as ‘fun’ people to work with and tended to earn, on average, nearly £2,000 more than their tea-drinking counterparts.

Espresso experts also tended to occupy higher level jobs too.

Tea drinkers were predominantly seen as team players rather than individual stars, but were also viewed as being quite feisty in the office when tensions moved upwards.

Katrina Webb, who helped organise and conduct the research, said this about the results: “Of course what we don’t know is whether [it is] the coffee that’s helping [people] set their sights high, or whether they’ve adapted to drink coffee find they have started to gain success.”

So there is still some debate: Does coffee make people successful? Or do upwardly mobile and friendly people turn to coffee because they see it as an essential accessory?

The poll was carried out ahead of last week’s International Coffee Day, which may call into question its validity – but we’re not going to complain!

It’s a good job we sell a large range of coffee isn’t it?!
