Cardiff coffee stall offers discount when using reusable cups

war on waste

A Cardiff-based independent coffee stall has offered customers an exceptional way to help reduce waste and help the environment whilst also supporting their business.

Coffee Am Byth, a stall stall based on the busy Cardiff weekend markets will reduce the cost of their drinks if customers buy a reusable cup and return to the stall with it.

The coffee stall relies on KeepCups, made from glass, ceramic and 100% recyclable plastics, KeepCups are marketed as an alternative to the traditional disposable takeout cups that many coffee shops and cafes use.

By purchasing a KeepCup, customers at Coffee Am Byth can receive a lifetime discount at weekends as long as they return with their cup purchased from the stall.

This comes as the TV Chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has waged a war on the big coffee brands waste, with over 2.5 billion cardboard cups being thrown away each year, and 99% into UK landfills.

Priced at between £9 and £15, the KeepCups will give customers a discount of up to 10% on their next drink if they come back with the cup.

This is a great way to get people focused on the environmental impact, with the added incentive of a discount of their coffee, plus a lovely durable travel cup to keep their favourite hot and cold drinks in!

It takes over 50 years for a standard cardboard coffee cup to degrade in a landfill, with the plastic lining causing much of the problems associated with environmental issues. Whilst companies like Frugalpac have created innovative solutions, many coffee shops are not willing to shoulder the inherent increase in costs to use these alternate methods.

By asking customers to make the decision to purchase a reusable cup, the coffee shop owners are asking the consumer to make a conscious choice to support environmental saving efforts.
