Society Install: The Falklands Centre, Catterick Garrison
It’s not often that you get the opportunity to provide hot drinks to the troops of the British Army!
Luckily for us we were contacted by representatives of the Falklands Centre at the Catterick Garrison to provide them with a brand new espresso machine as part of a complete refurbishment of the facilities.
The entire refurbishment was funded by the Army Welfare Grant Commission and the Royal British Legion, with Falklands war veterans opening the centre days after our coffee machine installation.
Formerly known as the Helles Barracks’ Hub, the centre underwent this full refurbishment and is a fitting tribute to those servicemen and women who served during the conflict, whilst also providing a comfortable area for permanent staff and recruits on the base to relax.
2 ITB’s Unit Welfare Officer proved to be the driving force behind the complete refit, with two Falkland war veterans invited as VIP guests to unveil the plaque and open the centre to all those at the Catterick Garrison.
With Gurkha, Guards and Parachute regiment staff on base at all times, this is a major reminder of one of the most historic eras in the history of the British armed forces.
As for the tools of the trade, the team at the Falklands Centre opted for the classic-design Expobar Elen and matching Tranquillo On Demand Doser coffee grinder.
A fine choice, especially given the early mornings most recruits and officers will face throughout their time in the military. Plus we think that this workhorse coffee machine can cope with the rigourous demands of the modern military!
