Awesome Autumn coffee recipes

Awesome Autumn coffee recipes

Autumn is a strange time of year, like preparation for winter, we are eased into the colder months with ever shortening days with less light and less heat. But it does mean we can look forward to an extra hour in bed later this year.

It’s not just Pumpkin Spice lattes that are an Autumn option, we’ve got 3 top class recipes to really wow your customers and even yourself – and yes that list includes a PSL.

The history of reversing time

Astronomer George Vernon Hudson initially proposed the idea of a two hour time change in an attempt to ‘save’ daylight. Presenting his notion to the Wellington Philosophical Society in 1895 he prefaced his argument by saying:

“To alter the time of the clock at the equinoxes so as to bring the working-hours of the day within the period of daylight, and by utilising the early morning, so reduce the excessive use of artificial light.”

However, Hudson’s plans didn’t receive much traction. But ten years later they finally received some mainstream attention when a William Willett revisited the idea and, eventually, the cause was taken up by the politician Robert Pearce. In 1909 the first Daylight Saving Bill was drafted, but it wasn’t formally adopted until 1916.

And so GVH is the man to thank for our extra hour of sleep and in-turn our extra hour or daylight.

Unfortunately there wasn’t a great deal he could do for the lower temperatures, but we it does mean that our Autumn favourites will start making an appearance on menus around the nation.

We have our favourites, and we’re sure that you have yours too, but let us (hopefully!) provide you with some inspiration for the coming weeks and months.

All recipes are made with Sweetbird syrups, available to purchase online for just £6.99, and best of all; they’re vegan friendly and free of any artificial colourings and GMOs.

If you’re in need of some coffee beans then we recommended our Super Crema blend. With a smooth, mellow and slightly creamy flavour profile it is perfect to be used in flavoured speciality lattes. Don’t just take our word on it either, there’s a great reason why it’s our best-selling coffee!

We’re excited to share these superb Autumn classics and provide some serious inspriation.

Pumpkin Spice latte

If one drink has captured the psyche of the Autumn coffee drinker, then it has to be the Pumpkin Spice Latte (or as it’s alternatively know, the PSL). So-much-so that mega coffee chain Starbucks has it’s own line of PSL related media, accessories and more.

What better way to tap into the meme than offer up a Pumpkin spice dream drink?

  • Double espresso
  • Steamed milk
  • 2 pumps of Pumpkin Spice syrup
  • Cinnamon toppings
  • Whipped cream – optional
  • Ground pumpkin seeds – optional

Combine the syrup with the espresso and then pour in the steamed milk. Finish off by topping this staple with a dusting of cinnamon and, if you fancy it, some whipped cream. But why not add some ground pumpkin seeds to add a different texture?

Trick or Treat

This is a Sweetbird special and one latte that is sure to get your customers talking about your skills on social media.

Maybe it should be renamed the Trick or Tweet?

  • Double espresso
  • Steamed milk
  • 1 pump of Caramel syrup
  • 1 pump of Pumpkin Spice syrup

Add the syrups to a freshly brewed double espresso and then top up with your steamed milk. The caramel and pumpkin flavours combine brilliantly, delivering a new flavour that’s recognisable but very hard to place.

Black Forest

A true Black Forest gateau consists of a number of layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream and cherries that is all topped off with even more cream and cherries. This latte brings all those flavours together. Delicious!

  • Double espresso
  • Foamed milk
  • 2 pumps of Cherry Syrup
  • 2 pumps of Chocolate Syrup
  • Whipped Cream
  • Cherries
  • Chocolate shavings

Pump the syrups into the espresso and then add the foamed milk until the glass is about two thirds full. Add a generous helping of whipped cream before topping with a mixture of cherries and chocolate shavings to create a truly delicious and decedent seasonal drink.
