Meringue coffee

As far as mental coffee concoctions are concerned, we haven’t had many new ‘innovations’ for what seems like an age.

With the blue algae latte, deconstructed coffee and even wasabi latte being three of our most recent favourite entries into the thanks, “but, no thanks” category in recent memory.

But the addition of the meringue coffee to the world is an experience we think we could really rally behind…

Seoul, South Korea, has taken coffee to a different plane of existence with the meringue coffee.

What we will say is that this has to be the most Instagrammable drink we’ve ever seen. It’s like a work of art.

All that the cafe do to make the drink is add the oversized meringue to espresso, whipped cream would usually melt, whereas the meringue holds firm within the coffee and can be dunked for a sugary-coffee treat.

There are an ever increasing number of people cutting dairy from their diets, and with meringue being 100% dairy free, we could see this growing in popularity somewhat.

Of course, there are those that will just jump on the bandwagon just to be part of a new craze – we’re not going to hate on these people…but we will remind them that this meringue coffee has way more sugar than any standard coffee could ever contain.

So it’s probably best to go easy on these, we can’t really recommend them replace a latte or cappuccino, unless you want a major caffeine and sugar hit at the very same time.

As for the cafe in question, Take-Out Drawing, it’s well known in South Korea for creating all kinds of new drink innovations, we’re interested in what Take-Out are calling the “Iceberg Macchiato”.

Espresso poured over frozen milk sounds like an absolute dream to us, but that’s for another time.
