Woman loses 8 stone by cutting sugar from her coffee

A Northern Irish woman with a 15 sugary coffee-a-day habit has lost more than seven and a half stone in just over a year, just by cutting out the sugar in her favourite drink.

Proving something that we all know already, it’s not the coffee that is the problem, it’s the sugar.

Lorraine O’Loughlin, from Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland, dropped an astonishing seven dress sizes after cutting her terribly bad habit of 15 cups of coffee a day — each with a staggering three sugars.

For those not-so-solid mathematicians out there, Lorraine was consuming on average 45 sugars per day. By our — admittedly basic — maths she was consuming a staggering 180 grams of refined sugar per day!*

An insomnia suffer, Lorraine’s habit spiraled out of control as she began to rely on the sugar and caffeine fix to keep her going through the day, despite recent studies concluding that caffeine ceases to work after three nights of interrupted sleep.

In a bid to change her bad habits the stay at home mum, began limiting herself to just four cups of coffee per day and ditched the sugar in favour of sweetener.

The 28-year old joined her local Slimming World group in April 2015, weighing in at 19st. She has since weighed in at 11st 7lbs — going from a size 24 dress to a size 10 to 12.

This drastic weight loss has seen Lorraine successfully battle her bout of depression and helped ease her insomnia.

It wasn’t just cutting out the amount of sugary coffees, Lorraine also followed a more sustainable healthy eating plan without snacking or bingeing on junk food to help speed up her progress.

“Before losing the weight I didn’t want anyone to see me or even look at me,” she said.

“My confidence now is just amazing – my whole family have noticed a massive difference in me,” she added.

It comes as no surprise that eating less and moving more helps people lose weight, but we aren’t having our beloved coffee take a beating for someone’s bad sugar habits!
