How To Avoid Calling Us Out

This list represents some of the more common problems with your coffee machine.

It may help you solve the problem without having to call us out.

Machine not working at all

  • Check power supply to machine is switched on
  • Check coffee machine is switched to the heat position
  • If machine has electronic timer check it is not in sleep mode

No coffee/water from group head

  • Check water supply is turned on. Pressure gauge should read min 2bar when machine not in use
  • Check water pump is working. Gauge should read 9bar when trying to make a coffee
  • Check correct filter basket is being used
  • Check coffee grind is not too fine

Steam arm not working

  • Check steam nozzles are not blocked
  • Check pressure gauge display correct pressure and doesn't drop to zero when steam tap opened
  • Check steam knob not broken on the shaft of the tap
  • If machine is fitted with a sight glass, check boiler level is correct

No hot water

  • Check machine is at working pressure
  • Check hot water arm defuser is not blocked
  • If machine is fitted with a sight glass, check boiler level is correct
  • Check hot water knob not broken on the shaft of the tap

Machine is leaking

  • If water is clear check water supply hose is not leaking at connection
  • If water is dirty/coffee coloured. Check waste pipe is not blocked
  • Remove drip tray and check machine waste box is not blocked
  • If leak cannot be stopped, turn off power to machine and turn off machine water supply

Coffee tastes bad

  • Have the group filter holders been cleaned?
  • Have the group heads been cleaned?
  • Are the coffee beans stale? Try changing the coffee beans by using a fresh bag
  • Has the water softener been changed recently?
  • Check grinder settings are correct

Coffee is cold

  • Is the machine up to temperature? Check pressure gauge
  • Check filter holders are always left locked into the group head
  • Are the cups being used warm?

Coffee grounds in cup

  • Clean group head
  • If filter holders are leaking then the group heads require a service
  • Filter holder may be worn

Coffee delivery too fast

  • Check that the correct filter basket is in the correct filter holder
  • Coffee grind is too course
  • Coffee weight incorrect

Coffee delivery too slow

  • Check that the correct filter basket is in the correct filter holder
  • Coffee grind is too fine
  • Coffee weight incorrect
  • Check pump pressure is at 9bar

Coffee grounds in handle too wet

  • Check grinder is switched on
  • Check coffee settings
  • Coffee weight incorrect
  • Is the filter holder at correct temperature? Should be left locked into the group head
  • Check that correct filter basket is in the correct filter handle

Unable to froth milk

  • Is there steam pressure?
  • Is the operating pressure at 1bar or above?
  • Try a different batch of milk (with a different use by date)
  • Try UHT milk

No coffee in doser

  • Check hopper slider is open
  • Check beans are not stuck in hopper neck
  • Check grinder is switched on and has power

Grinder not working

  • Check grinder is switched on
  • Check if grinder is hot. If yes allow 20mins to cool and check above

Grind too course/ fine

  • Adjust grinder ring a notch at a time, run grinder and discard old coffee before retrying
  • If problem persists, consider changing grinder blades/burrs

No milk just steam

  • Check milk container has sufficient milk
  • Check milk pipe no bends or kinks
  • Check milk frother is clean
  • Check milk frother is fitted on machine correctly and is properly connected

No frothed milk from an automatic machine

  • Check milk frother is clean
  • Check air pipe has no bends or kinks
  • Try milk from a different batch, with a different sell by date
