UK Coffee Week is now upon us, is it seriously a whole year since we last celebrated the UK coffee industry and the work done to help those achieve their caffeine creation aspirations?

For those unaware, UK Coffee Week is a nationwide fundraising initiative where we as trade professionals, coffee operators and customers can join forces and celebrate the growing British coffee culture, all whilst raising valuable funds for the communities worldwide that help us create the coffee we all know and love.

Espresso spread: Probably the best thing you can now put on bread

Within weeks of hearing about a Japanese firm releasing a coffee butter-based coffee spread, we have a step up in the caffeine-spread stakes. This time in the form of Espresso Spread.

Many of us in the UK tend to choose to forgo breakfast in favour of a hot drink, so the combination of a caffeine fix with a light breakfast bite might just be up a lot of people’s street.

Combining coffee and food isn’t exactly a first, but being able to spread espresso onto your toasted bagel could be our next fixation.

Summer Shmoo shakes: The healthy milkshake option!

Officially, it is now British Summer Time. So officially we are rolling out the red carpet for the season of sun – we’ve seen very little of it so far!

That means that we can now tuck into ice cream by the seaside (wind, rain and hail might also make an appearance), spend our evenings in the garden and generally just enjoy the best season of the year.

For those of you out there that are running the cafes, coffee shops and seaside hideaway haunts that we love so much, then you should seriously have a little look at how you are prepped for the summer. …continue reading Summer Shmoo shakes: The healthy milkshake option!

Efficiency or enhancement? The robot-barista revolution

Fans of efficiency over service might be eagerly awaiting the influx of automated robotic assistants that look set to take place of vast portions of our workforce in the coming decades.

The coffee industry could see yet another shake-up, where automatic bean to cup coffee machines have seen an increase year-on-year at convenience stores, busy canteens and more, we could soon see robot baristas taking the place of humans on our high street.

But that’s in the distant future right? Not quite.
