Schaerer

Over ninety years ago, Schaerer manufactured their first coffee machine. For a company that had built their reputation on making sterilisation kits for medical facilities, the leap into coffee was, admittedly, a large one. However any worries that arose during the design and development phase were quickly forgotten and Schaerer soon became known for their expertly crafted coffee machines.

In the years since the Swiss entity has been at the forefront of the coffee sector, introducing numerous technological advancements in the process. Two of the company’s most well-known developments were the development of the first fully automatic coffee machine in 1970 and the creation of the first automatic cappuccino system in 1997. This meant that Schaerer was able to adapt to the demands of a rapidly demanding consumer base that was beginning to expect the presence of milk-based coffees.

In 2006, Schaerer was purchased by WMF, but despite having new owners, the company has remained an independent enterprise.

Today, Schaerer’s machines can be found in a variety of establishments that are serious about coffee. The Coffee Art, for example, is used by both Costa Coffee and Premier Inn.
